We have several different race types and locations all across the country that your whole team will enjoy! For a complete list of our available events, please visit the Events tab on our Home Page.
Road: Overnight team relay on the road (surprise!). Teams of 12 run roughly 200 miles —from point A to point B—on city streets, country roads, sidewalks, and bike paths. You’ll run day, and night, and day again, sleeping (maybe) in vans, grassy fields, or perhaps a high school gym (with the principal’s permission). Each teammate will run three separate legs of the race, with downtime in between, for a total of 11 to 24 miles per runner (twice that for ultra teams). After the final pass of the baton—er, slap bracelet—you’ll cross beneath the iconic orange arch together, dripping with … pride.
Trail: Overnight team relay that takes place on the trails (shocker!). Teams of 8 run roughly 120 miles—in three repeating loops—on wilderness trails that wind through forests, valleys, and mountainsides. You’ll run day, and night, and day again, potentially sleeping, near the temporary tent city known as the Ragnar Village. Each teammate completes each race loop once—green, yellow, and red—with breaks in between, for a total of 15-ish miles per runner. Elevation is inevitable. And so are breathtaking views.
Road Sprint: So. You like to sleep. This is our 1-day format that takes place on the exact same point A to B course as the standard Road race. You’ll start further along the course, and it won’t be nearly as long. If you love a good team challenge, crave time in the great outdoors, and prefer soft sheets to sleeping in a van, this Sprint relay might be exactly your speed — 1 day, 6 runners, 12 legs and 55-ish miles. You’ll get to celebrate the finish line without jeopardizing your sleep.
Trail Sprint: So you don’t like camping. That’s fine. This is our 1-day format that takes place at the same exact venue as our standard Trail race. Teams of 3 will set out to conquer two incredibly unique single-track trails. You’ll get to celebrate the finish line with everyone else who is significantly more tired than you.
Road Ultra: Exactly like the Road event, except with less people. Teams of 6 run the same point A to point B course as the standard team. If you do the math...that’s 22-48 miles per runner, meaning each runner runs 6 legs of the race. Depending on the course, you’ll run through city streets, country roads, sidewalks, and bike paths. You’ll run day, and night, and day again, probably not sleeping at all but if you do, it will be in your van, on a field or maybe school gym. After many, many miles, you’ll cross beneath the iconic orange arch together as a team (and have bragging rights that you did it with less people).
Trail Ultra: Exactly like the Trail event except with less people. Teams of 4 run the same three repeating loops as the standard trail teams, twice. So if you do the math, that’s still 120-ish miles all together as a team, and 30-ish miles per runner. Double the elevation. Double the sleep deprivation. You’ll run day and night, day again with a few moments to catch your breath or take a nap in between loops.
Black Loop: The Ragnar Black Loop is a team type available at select Ragnar Trail races. Instead of teams of 8 running relay-style, just you and one other teammate will run the green, yellow and red loops together on day one.
Beginning early on day 2, you will conquer the Black Loop. Together, the two of you will each complete 30-ish miles by time you finish the Black Loop. The elevation will be brutal, it won’t be easy, but the views and satisfaction will be totally worth it. For more information, visit the Black Loop page on our website.
